Recently I have been practising a response - to reserve concluding, to reserve determining an outcome. This practice stems from creating a non-judgemental state of mind.
Our brains interpret circumstances at high speed. Now as a layman, I don't know what that speed is. But guessing the might of our brains I am considering it to be superfast. This processing takes place at an unconscious level.
The brain processes this information based on past response patterns. These patterns are a reflection of what we perceive of ourselves. So, at any point, we want to shift what we perceive of us, to shift the ways we respond to our circumstances - especially the behaviours that follow our triggers.
When we practise non-conclusion, we create an intentional space. This space is created and derived from our decision to respond differently. The more we practise this, we get to reign in our automatic response patterns.
This is how we shift our perceptions and our stories. Deciding that you do not want to conclude on an old story can bring up a lot of unhealed responses. But the more we allow these thoughts and emotions to pass, the more we create space for new patterns and beliefs to come into place.
This experience will be difficult at first. We are not used to shifting the character that we have created in our minds. But the more we practise this, we realize that we've never had to play a role. But to just engage with whatever comes up in the present.
No matter how much we try to fight it, our life is just how it needs to be. However, it all still comes down to our choices - the kind of people and environments we choose to engage with, on how we show up minute to minute, and most importantly how and what we respond to.
Our responses require energy. Choosing what and how we respond to our circumstances is being mindful of our energy.
