Today, my yoga practice focused on maintaining balance amid losing our ground. We explored balancing our bodies along different edges of our bodies - from laying on our backs to getting on hands knees and toes, to Downward Dog and Three-Legged Downward Dog, and finally, one-legged balances and flow.
This practice awakened a keen sense of curiosity in me. I was mindful, and observant of how my body felt throughout the flow. However, I also noticed moments of irritation when I would wobble through my balance.
But, this is what the practice was all about - it encouraged the wobble. Life is full of moments where we tread new ground. How can we expect to navigate unfamiliar paths when we aren’t yet aware of the terrain? When we haven’t developed the necessary skills, it’s only natural to take our time to find steadiness and maintain balance.
I needed this lesson. Sometimes I wish I could bypass some experiences to quickly leap into the good times. Or, I wonder why things aren't taking shape despite my efforts. Perhaps the struggles themselves are necessary—our balance emerges through them. By surrendering to these unknown terrains, we allow ourselves to learn and adapt, naturally finding our way through them.
We just need to be willing to get lost for a while.
