Grounding and Presence: Awareness

For me, awareness is presence, or being here and now. The energy in our body is constantly moving from moment to moment, throughout the day. These moving energies are the outcomes of different thoughts that arise, as the moment unfolds. Since I began my meditation practice, I learned to attune myself to this energy.

Awareness also means to ground oneself back into their body. Living in the physical realm can get overwhelming. In this sense, you come across so many people. And somehow you might start relating yourself to them, through different measures. These relations might subconsciously become a base for comparison - of where you stand in the social spectrum, with regards to others. And unconsciously begin buying into other people's realities - their ideas of success, joy, progress and such.

These ideas lead us astray from our own meaning and measures for the same qualities. This is where we begin to dissociate from ourselves. The panic, overwhelm and anxiety are a result of our energies dissociating from our bodies. This is a dissociation from our essence

A practice to ground into: The next time your mind finds ways to externally relate you with others take a step back. Be aware of your internal energy and start breathing to connect with it.

Once you connect with your internal energy, notice the energy that has left and created a void. The holes of a Swiss cheese help me visualize the voids. Notice these voids and be with them. Connect to it, be with it and breathe with it.

Once you are comfortable here, begin to visualize your existing internal energy moving towards and filling up these voids. These energies can come from anywhere in the body space - from your arms, from your heart space, pelvic space, or even the adjoining areas. Visualize the energy gradually spacing into these voids. Take your time. Do not rush this.

Once this void is filled, take your arm and gently pat swipe the space where this merge took place, on the external area of it.

When overwhelmed, remind yourself to ground back in more and more into yourself. Visualize all of the internal energy coming into the space where unconsciously you might have freely given away your energy. This is an intentional and deliberate practice to nourish and replenish your energy loss.

A momentous practice: Another practice is to lean into whatever you feel in the moment. We are always experiencing many things at once. So allow this multitude to exist. Could you just be present to witness this? When you allow this, you can experience the free feeling and the opening of a multidimensional space.

For further clarity, dissociation is when you feel like things are spiralling away from control. You feel like leaping away from the now and running away from yourself. The fear arises from a place of not being able to control the unknown. Your thoughts begin spiralling with this energy and begin reflecting this too. It is an energy of urgency. In psychological terms, known as the flight mode.

Usually, it's in these moments of overwhelm or anxiety that remind me to get back into my body. The practices have helped me to ground back into my vital life force energy back into my body where it belongs. A practice of holding on to your free-flowing, and loving essence. The more you can learn to ground back into yourself, the more you can surrender to the moment. The more you can make your decisions from this place of stillness, presence and intuition.
